The Three Hundred and Fifty Fifth...

Number Three Hundred and Fifty Five:

Home, Dinner, Lasagna

Amazing night last night at Balliceaux for the Macabre Masquerade. The Secretly Ya'll...storytelling was fine, the readings from the book were terrific and the band, The Zombie String Trio really brought the awesome! So great! So today, being Halloween, Gina, Justin and I got to dress up, cuz that's how we roll suckas! Gina did a good 60s black & white movie gal, Justin did a swell Muertos Cowboy, and well, I was the Masque of Red Death.

Here's a pic we shared with co-workers:

Third costume this Halloween by the way... damn. Anyway, home eating lasagna and watching the classic Wicker Man is my night! Nice!

The Three Hundred Fifty Forth...

Number Three Hundred and Fifty Four:
Home, Pumpkins!

One of Hope's friends came over for lunch and pumpkin carving today. The guy had never carved a pumpkin before, I think he was excited and had a good time. Lisa roasted some of the seeds and we played Apples to Apples. Good day amid another tragedy, a young woman with a bright future had her life cut short by a reckless driver Friday. She was the person who interviewed Beth and I for Quail Bell Magazine. Rest in Peace, Josephine Stone.

On another note --and I know I would have seen Josphine there-- our final October event for the book is this evening at Balliceaux. Macabre Masquerade with Secretly Ya'll and the Zombie String Trio!

The Three Hundred and Sixth...

Number Three Hundred and Six:
Balliceaux, Dinner, Burger

After an invigorating yoga session, Lisa and I met Gina for Balliceaux burger time and one of my favorite local events these days. Secretly Ya'll... has now been in town for a year and they did a special Musician's Secret episode which was brilliant. Singer-Songwriters got a chance to come to the stage and talk about a song they wrote, then played. What was really great about it, was that they just did ONE song, then let the next person come up and tell their story and sing. Great stuff and snagged this shot right after the burger came.

Speaking of Secretly Ya'll events, Richmond Macabre is co-hosting with them to put on a Macabre Masquerade on October 30th, starting around 7PM! For 3 bucks (that will go to Books on Wheels) 3 storytellers will spin yarns, three writers from the book will do some readings, a surprise band, and a DJ to finish off the night with a dance party! Oh yes, this will be good! DO IT!

The Two Hundred and Forty Third...

Number Two Hundred and Forty Three:
Balliceaux Restaurant, Dinner, Burger

Another fine habit that Lisa and I have gotten into has been the Secretly Ya'll... storytellers that happens every once and a while at Balliceaux. We usually have Gina hold down a table for us while we finish yoga, but she was at the beach this week and we wound up standing for a bit. We got to see Beth Brown do her fun tale about a moonshiner relative then a few others before we decide to go to the restaurant bar in the front for burgers. Intermission broke and we chatted a while with Beth, her pal Jeff, and Paul Ginder, before grabbing a beer and finding a crowded booth to sit at and watch the second half. The second part is the out of the hat portion, which can sometimes be more interesting because these are not practiced tellers, but random people spilling out tales, with often hilarious results. A terrific event for RVA!!!

The One Hundred and Seventeenth...

Number One Hundred and Seventeen:

Balliceaux Restaurant, Dinner, Burger

After a nice rigorous (for us) yoga session, it was off to Balliceaux for the Secretly Ya'll storytelling event. We went to the last one and had a good time, meeting Gina, who secured a table for us. She did it again and we got to get our burger, booze and stories on. Great event where there are several featured storytellers that spin some yarns, then, after an intermission, they draw names from a hat for random people to come up and tell tales. Some are great storytellers, others just have a funny thing that happened to tell. What is brilliant about it, particularly with the "amateurs" is where the stories kind of sidebar, then wind up. Thinking the tale out often leads to wonderful, clever passages. Great stuff.

This one was while Jay from Deep Groove Records was on the stage.
Storystache!
NO!
I had to rename this thanks to my friend Janet!

The Sixty-First...

Number Sixty-One:

Balliceaux Restaurant, Dinner, Burger

So after starting a new yoga class, L. and I met up with work G. for this storytelling event called, "Secretly Y'all...". We got to hear some pretty good yarns from various generations about some famous Virginians, living in Virginia or just being southern and what the rest of the world thought of that. Basically they already had 6 or 7 people prepared to tell stories, but they also drew four names from a hat for the second half of the show to let anyone in the audience who could spin tales give it a go as well. We love these kind of evenings where you become enlightened or your brain juices flow. There was a good crowd that night too. Anyway, this is the first post I forgot to post on the day I did it, and this post being done in the wee hours of the next day. However, the stache was done in the proper day!
