Number Three Hundred and Forty Nine:

Mekong, Dinner, Beef

Lisa and I sat at the bar, chatting with Diablo and others, enjoying the dinner, enjoying the beer. Also, planning the "Last Napstache". Met with An for the plan and this is what we have. Yes, the last one will be at Mekong, one free beer from me and get a ticket if you show, have some dinner, buy more beer for yourself, and plan on doing a napstache with me for the last one!

One of my favorite mirrorstaches by the way. Love the angle and the bottles of booze.

Number Three Hundred and Twenty Seven:

Balkan Restaurant, Lunch, Goulash

Chilly day yesterday and today made me want something warm when we went to Balkan for lunch. Goulash. Oh yeah, that's the good stuff!

The One Hundred and Ninth...

Number One Hundred and Nine:

Garnett's Cafe, Lunch, Roast beef and swiss

We were running errands and happened to be in the neighborhood, so Garnett's was a perfect choice. It was just 11:30 and we were the first people there. I love sitting at the bar here. It's a small joint, eloquently quaint, and while the tables for two are nice, this bar has just the right feel. It really does give you the whole 40s or 50s lunch vibe, especially when you are moseyed up to the bar. Plus I have never had a bad conversation with the staff that serves us from there. Delightfully casual. We were initially planning on one of those great pies or cakes for dessert but Lisa made the decision to bake at home later, plus that roast beef and swiss (with horseradish) will beat you nearly every time. So good! Anyway, this is a kind of seek and findstache...hidden --well, ish.

The Tavern, Dinner, Hummus






A quick bite after an appointment, Hope had a salad, me the hummus plate, which is not bad. The thing about getting a hummus platter is that when you first see it, you are all like, "Man, that is NOT going to be enough hummus, I can't believe I paid 8 bucks for it." But by the time you are halfway through it, you are FULL. Ahh, chickpeas and tahini, good stuff that sticks with you. This photo kind of has that guy on the grassy knoll at Dealey Plaza vibe to it. Yes, I hit the Corks & Kegs store afterwards to stock up!

Number Eighty-Seven:



Thai Diner Too, Lunch, Red Curry Tofu

H. and I got some haircuts, then her stubbornness won again, so Thai it was, and that ain't bad! There were a lot of toddlers around, one group had their girl walking around being social, another couple had a crybaby that wouldn't eat and kept pointing out another kid at a table who ate all of her food and she is like 1 years old, you're three. Whines abound. It hardly bothered us at all because we were stylin' some new hairdos and napstaches!

Balkan Restaurant, Lunch, Chicken Gyro






After reading the recommendation in Richmond Magazine, and me doing Yelp mapping, Lisa and I finally had the chance to try this nice little restaurant in the West end. We started with some cheese Burek, very tasty and fluffy. Then we each had the chicken gyro with two sauces to choose from; one was a red pepper sweet thing and the other was a sour cream and feta thing that was terrific. The bread they make is homemade and fantastic! I asked if we could get some to go for our dinner in the evening, but they said they couldn't because they only made a certain amount. I think our waitress thought I meant for free, but we were wanting to buy some. Anyway, she said we could call ahead for any large orders like that. Good stuff. Service was very friendly and it felt very much family oriented. Very culturally Balkan as many people came in, families, speaking the language and yucking it up like it was a neighborhood restaurant. Recommended spot, wish it was a little closer to town however, because I don't think we will get out there much. The Bookmobile however...

Thai Diner Too, Lunch, Red Curry Tofu

Great little Carytown eatery with one of the best lunch specials. They totally give you an egg roll no matter what! H. I were doing a little Holiday shopping and this was the spot we agreed on. After that we headed home, but not before stopping by MacArthur for the Holiday Illumination weekend. Sales from locals, a firetruck, other stuff and they opened Samis Grotto (or the old Bellevue Theater) and had bands playing! Super cool!

Number Twenty-Four:



Basilis, Lunch, Gyro

We were hitting Carytown early, cuz that's how we roll, and ahead of the crowd, even for lunch at this great little Greek eatery. Tokyo Market and
World of Mirth for stocking stuffers,Chop Suey Books where I picked up the funniest book title EVER called "Eeeee Eee Eeee" by Tao Lin, and a few other places on our list. No over the top consumerism, I swear!
